Koogler Middle School Classroom Management Plan

School Year: 2018-2019

Content: 8th grade Science

Procedures: A procedure is the way that we do things.

To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example:

To open your locker, you have to select your combination as directed by the lock manufacturer.

To place a call on your phone, you need to enter the number in the right order.

So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures.

Entrance:

 

Bell Rings:

 

Students should be seated and working, NOT rushing into the room trying to catch up.

Tardies:
 

Put your tardy pass on my desk without interrupting. If you don’t have a tardy pass, take your seat without disruption and get on task.

During Instruction:

 

Direct Instruction:

 

Sit without disturbing others. Ask appropriate questions at appropriate times.

Keeping a Notebook/Journal:

 

Interactive notebooks will be used daily. You will either keep your INB in the proper crate in the classroom, or bring it with you each day.

Getting Student Attention:

To Get The Teacher’s Attention:

 

Raise your hand. Do not yell or get out of your seat to come get me.

While Working:

 

Group Work:

 

Stay focused on the task. Everyone participates to get full credit. Non participation will result in grade penalty.

Independent Work:

 

Work is done quietly without help from your classmates.

Partner Work:

 

Only at your table, do not wander the room to find a new partner or to see what others are doing.

Computer Use:

 

When needed, they will be placed at your lab station.  Permission is required for computer use.

Electronic Devices:

 

Are not permitted in class.

When Finished:

 

Work Turn In:

 

Place your completed assignment in the proper tray according to your hour. Trays are located on the shelf by the cabinets.

Enrichment:

 

If all assignments are current and turned in, folder games will be accessible.

On the due date, place in the tray at the beginning of the hour.

Format:

 

Will vary on assignment or task. Full directions will be given with each homework assignment.

Students should ask tablemates what they did on the day(s) they missed. If a handout is needed, ask Mrs. Appleman at the beginning or end of class.

Tests:

Can be made up before or after school. Or special arrangements can be made with teacher approval.

Make Up Work:

Placed in tray, identifying that it is make up work due to absence.

8th Grade Physical Science Syllabus

2018-2019

Course Description: We will study the following topics: Matter & It’s Interactions, Earth & Human Activity, Waves & Their applications in Technologies for Information Transfer, Energy, Motion & Stability: Forces & Interactions.

Supplies & Materials: Students will be expected to bring all necessary materials to class with them each day. Each student will be required to maintain a Science Interactive Notebook*.

The required materials are:

*5 Subject Spiral Notebook, glue stick/tape, pencils, pens, highlighters

Homework: Homework assignments may be given daily and students will be expected to complete them and turn them in on the due date.

Quizzes: Quizzes will be given over material covered in class. Some quizzes will be announced and others may be unannounced.

Tests: There will be a Common Formative Assessment given approximately every two weeks and an interim at the end of each quarter.

Extra Credit: Assignments may be given throughout the semester; however, a student should focus on doing his/her best work on the coursework given during class.

 

Grading Scale:     A       89.5-100 

                             B       79.5-89.4

                   C       69.5-79.4

                   D       59.5-69.4

                   F        59.4 and below

Grading Policy: Each semester, grades will be calculated on total points earned out of total points possible.

Make-up Work: If a student misses class, they should contact the teacher to get the missed assignments. Students will be given two days for each day they are absent to complete the work. If a student knows they will be absent, they should ask to get the assignments before the absence. If a student misses a test or a quiz, then he/she must notify me, and other arrangements will be made.

Absences and Tardies: I will follow the Koogler Middle School policy for absences and tardies.

Classroom Rules:

·        Show up on time and prepared to learn

·        Respect your classmates

·        Observe and follow the rules of KMS

Late Work: Students will have one week to turn in a late assignment, for 70% credit. Students may do corrections on any assignment that is under 70%, with a parent/guardian signature.

Cheating: Cheating will not be tolerated. Students involved in cheating activities will receive a zero (0) for that assignment.
